Ding! Baking is Done!

It has been a while since I have blogged, well I guess thats what having a baby does to you! Baker is just over 4 months old and is the most adorable little thing! At his last checkup he weighed in at 11 lbs, 11 oz...he is getting heavy! Our little angel was born on Wednesday, February 9th at 10:02pm. He weighed 4lbs, 5oz and was 18.5 inches long. In my last post, I had mentioned that the 11th was the big day...well, my son decided that he wanted to come a bit earlier than expected. :) On that snowy Wednesday, Bill had come by to visit me for lunch. The entire week, we were trying to mentally prepare for Baker's arrival and were trying to take it easy. That Tuesday I started cleaning up my room a bit and getting ready to "move out" of my home away from home. I created a care package for a fellow bedrest friend down the hall...I gave her all of the "necessities" that she needed for the road ahead. We met in Dr. Fogle's office...Karen was dressed in her PJ's and in a wheelchair...it was a dead giveaway. She was super sweet so I thought that I would send her a little care package via Pookie. So things were moving right along for the big day. Well on Wednesday the 9th, I was just cruising through my EZ Mac and lovely piedmont cafeteria grilled sandwich when Vernice walked into the room. Bill and I were watching TLC's "Bringing Home Baby" and I was telling Bill that he better start taking notes :-). I got into the habit of always checking Baker's heartrate everytime the door opened and as soon as I looked over at the monitor, i saw that it was in the 90's...and dropping. At first I immediately thought it was my heartrate because whenever I sat in an upright position to eat, the monitor would pick up my heartrate instead of Baker's....well this time it was not mine, it was my sweet baby's.

Vernice tried to get him to come back up and had to call for help...before you knew it, there were 4 nurses and a random dr at my bedside trying to get Baker to get off his umbilical cord. It was one of the most terrifying moments of my life...his heartrate would not come back up and I felt like I was losing him. Bill was next to me the whole time and holding my hand as I shut my eyes as tight as I could. All I could do was listen for his heartbeat to beat faster...after what felt like a lifetime, he finally came back up and I opened my eyes to see 137...138...139...phew!!! Well, my doctor was called over and Dr. Kleiss was like..."this is crazy..36 hours arent going to make a difference, let's go ahead and get this guy out." My doctor was afraid that the same thing might happen again in the middle of the night and all of my doctors would be at home asleep. So that is when it was decided that I would become a Mom that night!

Because I ate lunch at 2pm...we had to wait 6 hours for surgery. It was the longest wait ever! Bill and I watched American Idol while we waited and one-by-one my sisters and family came by to wish us Good Luck. They also helped us move out into our new room...I kinda thought I earned Antepartum room #288 for after delivery...but Piedmont L&D had other ideas-Boo. haha. All of my sisters were in route and ready to meet Terrill Grandchild #10, so happy that they all could make it, it was truly special to have them there with me. Alli and Tracee were the ones who let everyone know on FB, I was too nervous to get on the computer and all I could do was wait. Bill was so excited and anxious at the same time. When he started getting dressed into his scrubs, reality started to click. The procedure went great and it was so nice to know everyone that was in the operating room. After living there for 2 months, the only person I had to meet was the anesthesiologist. My friend Lindsey Bannister was one of my nurses and we still visit eachother almost every other week. She was pregant at the same time with sweet Madison and now Baker and Madi are good friends. Its not every day you are friends with someone who helped deliver your baby.

When Baker was born he was having a very hard time breathing and his crying was actually something called "singing". Singing meant that he was having extreme difficulty breathing. The NICU nurses were amazing, they were already in the delivery room equipped with oxygen hoses and were applying oxygen to him as they made him all pretty. William Baker Weatherford III came out "mad as a hornet" and was exploding with life! He was so LONG and perfect! Daddy was right next to him the whole time and everyone was giving me play by play updates while I was getting ready for recovery. Bill was able to check in on Baker after I was taken to recovery and Lindsey and I just hung out as I tested out the morphine pump...it worked...and it was nice. Bill was able to take the Grandparent's back and then he took the aunts. You were only allowed to bring one person back at a time, but everyone got to see little Baker. When it was finally my turn to meet my son, they wheeled me into the NICU and the first person I saw was my Alli. She and Tracee, my two pregant awesome sissies, had just gotten into Atlanta.

When I saw little man, he was so cute! It was hard to see his face because he was on a C-PAP but there my little guy was...just fighting away! The C-PAP is a tube they put in his nose to supply constant oxygen. Dr. Parallada, his neonatologist said that he looked good, but that he was going to have to intibate him to help him breathe easier. He was intibated for 4 days and although it was more serious than the C-PAP, I was kindof ok with it because I actually got to see his little face. He was extremely brave and was such a good patient. After a week in the NICU, he was moved over to the Intermediate NICU where he had his own suite! The nurses took great care of him and it was a long road to home. It took little one 5 weeks, but after working up to 8 bottles, passing a carseat test and many other tests...he was finally ready. We took Baker home on March 16th...3 months to the date of our entering Piedmont. He was sent home with a monitor and wore it for about 2 months, I set that thing off more than he did by tripping over those dang cords.

Well, my little Angel is finally home and is doing so wonderful! He is the happiest little baby and we are spoiling him rotten. He is now sleeping through the night and Mommie and Daddy sure are happy about that. The bottom line is this-We have learned to not take anything for granted and to cherish every single moment that we have with little Baker. In the blink of an eye, your world can be turned upside down and it can be the best thing that ever happened to you. I have the most amazing friends and family, without you, I would not have gotten through this. I also have to admit that I would not have done it without FB either. It kept me so entertained!! The prayers and thoughts will always be remembered and I am a better person for going through this unbelievable test. WE DID IT!! Love you Bakie!!
